Blue Fish Running Thick at Sunglow

Last Updated on June 11, 2014

Decided to get an early start to the day and head out to Sunglow Fishing Pier in South Daytona Beach. I got to the pier at about 5:30AM and put a line out on the bottom with a medium live shrimp. I then put a GOTCHA lure on my second pole and started to cast in hopes of bringing in a few Spanish Mackerel.

After about 5 casts and 5 Blue Fish I knew what the day was going to be about! Short, but spirited, fights on a medium weight baitcasting rig. All of them being about this size (the tackle box is about 10”):

While I am not a big fan of catching blue fish on live bait, they are quite fun to catch on lures. They strike hard and have a quick little run.

The live bait did not perform to well today. A few bonnet head sharks and a few small whiting is all that was fooled by the shrimp.
