Snapper and Drums from Ponce Jetties

I spent the day fishing from the Ponce Inlet Jetties and it ended up being a good day! I got to the New Smyrna Beach Jetties just after sun rise and started the day by tossing a live shrimp out into the inlet.

After loosing a few shrimp a nice drum finally took the circle hook. After a short fight I had my fist drum on ice! This pattern continued for about 2 hours. A few lost shrimp followed by a nice keeper black drum. I put three black drum on ice and released the rest.

My wife and I really enjoy Black Drum and have a few really good recipes for them. Even though it is one of our favorite I will only keep the amount of fish the wife and I can eat with in the a week.

After catching a few nice drum I switched over to mud minnows and started to catch mangrove snappers. For the most part they were all around 8-11”. I kept one that was 12”, my wife’s favorite fish to eat, which allows me to continue fishing with out hearing a complaint!
